Warner Annual Fund Update

Thank you to those families who, as of February 1st, have already donated to the Warner Annual Fund.  We are only at 57% school wide participation.  We need to increase our participation, both in terms of class participation and dollars contributed.  If you’re procrastinating, don’t; your contribution will be missed!  WAVE provides programs, services, supplies, and more for every single student, and your children are benefiting from WAVE funded programs daily; they have the assistance of in-class aides, they are attending art classes, science labs, computer lab, preparing for the amazing Winter Sing, and receiving playground coaching.  All of this has been fully or largely funded by WAVE – NOT by LAUSD, and NOT by the state or the federal government.
If you can’t give the suggested amount, GIVE WHAT YOU CAN.  EVERY DOLLAR MATTERS, AND WE ARE COMING UP ON THE DEADLINE TO HAVE NAMES ON THE BANNER.  We need widespread support to ensure we can continue to provide the high-caliber education we want for our kids.  Go to https://warnerfundraising.org/warner-annual-fund/ to give today!

Warner What’s Happening – 11/25/18

November 25, 2018 by e.pankau

Issue: #15
Week of 11/25/2018
Warner Annual Fund Message

Thank you to those families who, as of November 9th, have already donated to the Warner Annual Fund.
We are only at 43% school wide participation. We need to increase our participation, both in terms of class participation and dollars contributed.
If you’re procrastinating, don’t; your contribution will be missed (and remember, don’t let time run out to get your tax deduction for this calendar year)! WAVE provides programs, services, supplies, and more for every single student, and your children are benefiting from WAVE funded programs daily; they have the assistance of in class aides, they are attending art classes, science labs, computer lab, preparing for the amazing Winter Sing, and receiving playground coaching. All of this has been fully or largely funded by WAVE–NOT by LAUSD, and NOT by the state or the federal government.
If you can’t give the suggested amount, give what you can. Every dollar matters. We need widespread support to ensure we can continue to provide the high-caliber education we want for our kids. Go to https://warnerfundraising.org/warner-annual-fund/ to give today!
Names in BOLD have donated as of last printing. If you donated and do not see your name on this list or your name is displayed incorrectly, contact  warnerannualfund@gmail.com.

Parent Edu Summary – Jason Ickowitz, LMFT

As part of our parent education series at Warner, Jason Ickowitz, LMFT spoke to parents on Tuesday, November 13th. In addition to seeing patients in his private practice, Jason is also a school counselor specializing with children in grades K-5.
We were so lucky to have Jason share different strategies for speaking to our children about difficult subjects. He reminded us that kids hear everything and our words are more important than ever.  Knowing how and when to start a dialogue with your children on a family crisis or world events is challenging, and Jason helped navigate those conversations. He took time for everyone’s questions and shared great resources for additional guidance. Before he even finished his talk, many parents requested that he return, so we may have another chance to hear him speak!  If not, stay tuned for more guest speakers coming in the new year.
“I found it very helpful for me to think about talking about hard subjects with my kids.” -Angel Rabbie

“The lecture helped ease my my mind about having difficult conversations with my kids. He touched on so many topics. He inspired me to want to talk more with my kids about the hard things that they might be trying to process in their little brains.” -Lauren Weisbarth

“That guy was good! I wish more parents would come to these talks.” -Sharon Ghatan

Parent Education Event – Tuesday, November 13th

Please join us to hear LMFT (licensed marriage and family therapist), Jason Ickovitz, speak on how to talk to our children about difficult life subjects.  The event will be on Tuesday, November 13th at 8:45am in the Mitchell Auditorium
Jason says, “One of the toughest jobs of parenting is talking to your kids about difficult subjects. In calmer moments finding time to read books to your child that address difficult topics such as death, racial differences, homelessness, bullies and anger management is an excellent way to help your child comprehend their experience and make better sense of the world.”

Warner What’s Happening – 11/04/18

November 4, 2018 by e.pankau

Issue: #13
Week of 11/04/2018
A Message from Principal Kamau

WAVE Meeting – Monday, November 5th

The next WAVE meeting will be on Monday, November 5th after morning assembly in Mitchell Auditorium.
See you there!
Warner Annual Fund Message

Thank you to those families who, as of November 1st, have already donated to the Warner Annual Fund.
We are only at 42% school wide participation.
Go to https://warnerfundraising.org/warner-annual-fund/to give today!
If you donated and do not see your name on this list or your name is displayed incorrectly, contact warnerannualfund@gmail.com.

Middle School Fair – Tuesday, November 6th

On Tuesday, November 6th, there will be a Middle School Fair.  It will be in the Mitchell Auditorium from 8:30am – 9:30am.

Getting Your Child Ready for Middle School Math – Wednesday, November 7th

Make it an Incredible Movie Night – Thursday, November 8th

Gratitude
Lesson Focus
Help students recognize how much they have to be grateful for each day (big and small) and point out how they can change their perspective when something doesn’t go their way. Similar to putting on their “thinking caps,” students can put on their “gratitude goggles”.
Dinnertime Discussion
1.  Discuss big and small things for which you are grateful as a family.
2.  Share examples of how you might change your outlook on something to show gratitude even if you feel disappointed or angry.
3.  Discuss why gratitude is the key to happiness.
A Note from the School’s Office

The school’s office staff is requesting small children clothing for grades TK and kindergarten, sizes 5 and up.  They are requesting leggings, shorts, and underwear for boys and girls.

Warner Annual Fund Message

Dear Warner Families:
I hope you had a wonderful summer and have enjoyed the first few weeks of school! Welcome to the 2018-19 school year and the launch of the 2018-19 Warner Annual Fund drive.
The Annual Fund is Warner’s highest giving priority, as it bridges the gap between the basic, minimum funding provided to Warner by LAUSD and the essential 21st century resources, services, and equipment necessary to promote the highly successful learning environment at Warner Avenue School. Your contribution to the Annual Fund pays for, among other programs and enhancements, teaching assistants in each classroom and on the school yard, class size reduction teachers, writing and reading workshop programs, and helps ensure that computers, science, physical education, art, and music are deeply embedded in your child’s learning experience. It is because these programs and enhancements (among others) are paid for by the Annual Fund and not by LAUSD, that your donation to the Warner Annual Fund is so critical!
Please consider making your gift to the Annual Fund today, as each gift provides a direct and immediate benefit to our children! Contributions can be made via credit card or a check, and can be paid in full, or spread out over three, six, and nine-month installment plans. Donations are tax deductible and can be made by going to:
https://warnerfundraising.org/warner-annual-fund/
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support of our children, and best wishes for a wonderful school year!

Director, Warner Annual Fund
