Student Council Officer Election Rules 2016-2017

 

  1. Only students currently in the 4th grade may run for president, vice-president, or secretary.

 

  1. Only students currently in the 3rd and 4th grades may vote.

 

  1. Applications are to be signed by your current classroom teacher.

 

  1. Students must have 3s and 4s in both the academic and effort areas (including Work and Study Habits, and Learning and Social Skills) for the second reporting period of the current year. Additionally, 3s and 4s should be projected by the teacher for the third reporting period.

 

  1. Speeches MUST be written by the student. Promises of parents or guest presentation, gifts, or prizes to be given, or any other unrealistic claims are not acceptable.

 

  1. Speeches must be presented to the candidate’s classroom teacher and will be approved by the teacher and the election committee.

 

  1. Speeches must be memorized in full. This is necessary because part of an officer’s duties is to memorize scripts to be presented at Winter and Spring Sing performances.

 

  1. All candidates must dress appropriately when giving their speeches in front of the voting public, i.e. boys – long pants and a collared shirt; girls – dress, skirt or long pants and a nice top. Remember, the school dress code still applies.

 

  1. The purpose of the speech giving and voting exercise is to teach the students about the democratic process and for them to learn respect for it and themselves as part of the process. Students need to look the part and feel the responsibility.

 

  1. Posters are to be handmade by the student using crayons, markers, colored pencils, paint, or similar trimming materials. They may be laminated and you can include photographs.   There should be no glitter, pre-cut items, stickers, scrap booking, computer generated items, or other commercially made items on the poster. All posters must be 22” X 28”.

 

  1. No stickers or other items will be distributed.

 

  1. STUDENTS, PARENTS, GUARDIANS ARE NOT TO SOLICIT VOTES VIA THE TELEPHONE OR INTERNET.

 

ANY DEVIATION TO THE ABOVE MENTIONED RULES WILL NULLIFY THE STUDENT’S APPLICATION. SHOULD YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE CALL THE MAIN OFFICE TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE ELECTION COMMITTEE.
